Come celebrate colour and culture the 40th anniversary exhibition invitation said, and o’ we did. The private view held last night at 50 Redchurch Street was a fabulous display of the years of success of the legendary beauty brand. Curated by Ryan Lanji the exhibition presented original press cuttings showing the names and most importantly the faces of the likes of Beyoncé, Jerry Hall and Princess Diana all wearing Cosmetics à La Carte. Aside these were fashion illustrations incorporating the brand’s signature colours and further into the space a dazzling display of decorated mannequin heads and featured editorial photographs.

The location was filled with fans and admirers all there to toast Lynne Sanders and her team. Around the room countless make-up artists and beauty experts talked of the success of the brand and praised the quality of the products with frequent mention of there being “nothing else quite like Cosemtics à La Carte”. In a short speech the effortlessly poised and graceful Lynne said simply how the brand was still continuing to evolve and that the night really was to celebrate all who have been involved getting it to where it is today.

We recommend you get your dose of colour and culture, the exhibition is now open to the public daily from 10am-6pm and runs until the 26th May 2013.

NEW TO H ISSUE

HALLOWED

Hallowed is a short film directed by Chris Turner (Hungry Man Productions / Favourite Colour: Black), based on Dante’s Inferno and featuring a bespoke remix of Eye Robot by Plaid.

This film was commissioned by (and features dancers from) English National Ballet, and appears in ‘H’ ISSUE which is accompanied with Heavenly Creatures by photographer Charl Marais.

George Williamson (of the English National Ballet) said: “Through this work I wanted to reach out to the wider creative community and demonstrate what I’m doing. This video involved a huge range of creatives and that’s also what we want to be doing at English National Ballet; collaborating and absorbing the art forms that exist around us, fusing them with our work and building new traditions showing ballets’ ability to provoke feeling and relevance alongside other art forms. We are willing to give artists the platform to voice their own work. If people like this video and think they have something to say, they should get in touch with us and let’s make it happen!”

MATILDA TEMPERLEY EXHIBITS TONIGHT IN LONDON

Exploratory photographer Matilda Temperley is showcasing the first instalment of her intriguing, and sometimes disturbing human zoo series. ‘Human Zoo: London’ which launches at The Wilmotte Gallery, London W10, this evening, 15th May.

Matilda is known for her stylised portraiture of marginalised societies. At times confrontational, her work is a empathetic nod to the self expression of her subjects and commands the immediate attention of the viewer.

This series of works references human zoos throughout history, from the ethnographic displays of the 1500s to modern-day freak shows. The London series showcases the individuality of the capital’s diverse inhabitants – from transgender body modification artists to contortionists – whilst introducing their stories and inspirations.

“I have always admired the bravery of the mavericks who are comfortable to sit outside society’s norms. This exhibition is as much about the viewer’s reaction to the subjects as it is about the subjects themselves.”

À LA DISPOSITION {INTANGIBLE}

H & H NAILS.

Make up artist Holly Silius and jewellery designer Hannah Warner joined their professions and have pushed the boundaries to create a range of 2D and 3D metal nails under the name H&H. We caught up with the lovely Holly and Hannah of H and H nails to hear about there past, present and what they are looking forward to in the future.

Tell us a bit about yourselves.

We both met in Miami in 2010, at a music festival, through mutual friends trying to change our friends flat tyre. We spent 2 weeks partying and having fun and then prolonged our flight so we could stay a bit longer! We both have travel interest and love for art and design, architecture and have strong creative backgrounds including sculpting and painting. I, Holly, studied art and have a degree in prosthetics, sculpting and wigs at London College of fashion, I went on to work in film, theatre then fashion taking a little from each industry and using it all in designing. Hannah studied Design and jewellery design at London Metropolitan before moving to New York and studying Gemmology at GIA and then set up HannahWarnerJewellery. We both love jewellery/gems/stones and precious metals so the collaboration was perfect for adorning the body in as much metal and jewels as possible.

What has been your favourite project/collaboration since you’ve worked together?

They are all fun, we can’t pick a favourite as we have been given so many amazing opportunities in such a short space of time of launching our brand. From being invited to the Mugler show in Paris, March 2012, where our first collection was used by the renowned manicurist Marian Newman, the thistle nails stood out so perfectly and then being invited for our collection to be used in the window displays of Harvey Nichols London in September 2012 and most recently Beyonce using them for her promo tour video!

Its got to be polished rose gold for us in the Scraper design.

What are or were your aspirations at the age of 26?

Working in fashion and being creative and successful in something we love

WENDY BEVAN AT THE COB GALLERY

Running from the 11th - 14th April 2013 at The Cob Gallery in Camden is an exhibition of sensational photographer Wendy Bevan.

Known for her surreal aesthetic and a tender, sympathetic portrayal of the feminine form, Bevan works exclusively from Polaroid film producing work free of digital manipulation rendering her work fresh, distinct and precious.

The exhibition features work from Bevan’s 10 year career with images that have featured in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Nylon, the works. Should you fall in love with these unedited snapshots they are available for purchase framed and signed beginning at £150.

TWENTY6 had the pleasure of interviewing Wendy at the preview launch on Wednesday night. As the Sacred Spirits G&T’s flowed we asked the photographer:
