ONES TO WATCH

Inspiration was drawn from strong women, such as Hattie Jaques and Margo (of the Good Life) with playful characters to create a colourful, flamboyant, eclectic collection of Winterwear that was an insight into Spring/ Summer 2013.

Shapes were structured and fitted, devoré textures with 70’s Margoesque daisy florals and sailor stripes.

BAARTMANS AND SIEGEL

Taking me back to a time where the archetypal man was depicted as a sleek burglar with a sophisticated edge.  Baartmans and Siegel adopted the ‘Milk Tray’ man as inspiration for the collection.  Awash with cobalt blues and the signature ‘Cadbury’ purple, we saw a mix of natural fibres and synthetics creating an homage to 1970’s style.  A collection that indulged in rich Scottish cashmeres and contemporary nylons.

Headwear was a nod towards the harsh winters of Scotland with bobble hats and peaked trappers.

BODYBOUND

ONES TO WATCH

A futuristic take on some old classics

Opening the show with a playful copper foiled cable knitwear, BODYBOUND really did steal the limelight within the One’s to watch showcase. A marry of metallic’s, khaki’s and transparent PVC’s played homage to tailored trenches and pleat fronted trousers. Long peaked winter sun visor’s tipped with gold, pulled the more subtle of looks together as a very strong first collection.

Lucid Disorder

Showcases a marriage between masculinity and romance. The Soviet officers uniform was the starting block for this collection. Sharp shouldered overcoats moved into a slightly softer look with pillar box red fur jackets and matching hats. Tailoring was updated for the season with an elaborate golden paisley woven fabric which stole the show.

T.LIPOP

By far one of my favorite shows this year. The collection has been inspired by military uniform, brought up to date with a new take on construction with the elimination of seems and a varied colour palette. Tom manages to keep true to his inspiration whilst injecting a softness of pattern and fur accent.

Accessories made the biggest statements with spherical white sunglasses and Fur covered tote’s

TOPMAN DESIGN

Awash with Black…

Topman’s in house design team created a very dark and sinister collection, comprising of sharp shouldered tailoring, asymmetric detailing which lead to dramatic masculine silhouettes . Inspiration came from a young Robert Mapplethorpe (showcased with highlights of his signature lilly print) and Patti Smith. Soft washed leather biker jackets were hardened with long wool coats belted tightly at the waist. Drama came from the layering of textures, fine gauge knits and lurex tops.

Knotted leather pendants and rosaries added a third dimension to the looks with a collaboration by  Husam El Odeh.
